Pregnancy Update - 31 Week Now

07th February 2010

I am exactly 31 weeks preggie today. I am larger and heavier - tummy has obviously grew larger, it measures at 39.5" now and thus far i have put on about 12kg already. *faint*
Tummy is getting a bit itchy already. I can't get into most of my pre-preggie clothes by now :D
As for the baby, his kicks are more forceful these few weeks, occassionally i could see him doing waves on my tummy then he will bulge on my right tummy again and again. I hope i can now continue to maintain the energy level i have had during second trimester.

Had A Scare of My Life!

3rd February 2010, Night.

I was happily chatting with friends over MSN, intuitively checking out my nipples which have discharge since few weeks ago. To my horror i noticed there was a small little blood dot on my left nipple. I was so frightened, had a most disturbing night that day, lots of negative thoughts sent fear to my heart and mind, really cannot imagine what would I do/react if something bad happens. Lying on the bed tryng to get some sleep, Geo comforted me but somehow being so emotional now my tear just row down my face uncontrollably.

The next morning i quickly made an appointment to see Doc Benjamin. The earliest i could see him is 320pm in clinic B. Luckily Geo who came to accompany me, that gave me the strength to overcome the long waiting time and fear.

Doc Benjamin did physical examination on my breasts, he could not detect any lump, then he tried to pinch my nipples to see if blood oozes out. (That was really painful!) But nothing came out except the clear sticky discharge. He ordered me to do an ultrasound scan for more detail check, i was already so worried so i insisted that i MUST do the ultrasound on that day. The nurse finally got me an appointment in Breast Center. A young lady did the scan for me. During the entire scanning process, i kept praying to GOD that everything is fine and normal. When the nurse completed the scan, she sent the images to the doctor for analysis and review, i asked her what is the outcome but she said she cannot tell me, have to wait for doctor. Gosh that really made me worried sick.

Patiently waited for a while, then i told the nurse i want to see the doctor now to know how is the result. A middle age female doctor came out and told me based on the scan it seems normal. But i have to wait till next day morning 1010am before the Breast doctor can tell me in more detail. Reluctantly we left KKH, i was still very worried!

Next day (5th Feb), finally managed to see Doctor Esther. This female breast doctor is also pregnant in her 28 weeks now. She reassured me that the findings of the scan are consistent with those seen in pregnancy, she explained that some pregnant women do experinece bleeding nipple during 2nd or 3rd trimester as the breast tissues are expanding quickly to start preparing for breastfeeding, during the process the tube that link the milk glands could be "over worked" and get inflammed, causing bloody discharge. She attempted to squeeze some discharge from both nipples and sent the sample for lab test. I have to come back to see her again on 12th Feb to check out the result. Doc wants to put me under monthly observation and monitoring to ensure all is fine. For the time being, there is nothing i need to do except applying some nipple cream to moisturize the skin. I bought one tube of nipple cream from Medela and another tube from Avent. I also bought two 100% cotton nursing bras to replace my wired bras which have become tight now.

After this episode, i have learnt that nipples are so sensitive and fragile. I better take good care of them now cos during breastfeeding, more challenges await!
