2nd Appointment

11th August 2009

Doctor looked at my blood test result and thank GOD it was good.
"come, let's scan" he said eagerly.

We could only see a small sac today. I asked doctor how many weeks i am now, he said "aiya don't worry so much now, stay relax and maintain serenity in mind is the best thing you need to do now". I was keen to know how many weeks i am now, but it seems doctor wanted to keep me in suspense for now.

This is how the sac look like now

1st Appointment with Doc Benjamin @ KKH

04 AUGUST 2009

We arrived at KKH in the morning.

Counter nurse look at mybooking and said : "Congratulations on your pregnancy!"

Next she passed to me one pack of mum-to-be gift pack (which contains a lot of brochures, info booklet and sample milk powder, baby napkins etc), then she started to bombard me the following questions which i did not expect and did not know how to respond:

Nurse : So you intend to deliver at KKH?
Me : huh?!! err....................... yes, most likely (me in blur look (@.@)?? with a silly smile
Nurse : then you intend to breastfeed?
Me: err??!! .....i don't know leh (in total blur look now, short of scratching my head)
Nurse : ok nvm we have all these brochures to provide you with more info. Now, would you like to sign up for FAST scheme?
Me : huh??......what is FAST scheme?? (i was thinking if no FAST scheme, everything must be slow at KKH!)

The nurse then went on and on to talk about the benefit of signing up for a prepayment package of $488 which will enabled subsequent visit and cost to charge automatically to the credit card and they promise faster turnaround time for dispensary, so on the very first visit, $488 gone. That is real FAST!

I was asked to do some routine test (urine test, BP check, height/weight measurement) before i proceed to see Doc Tham. Doc did a scan but could only see a small little black dot, and he could not rule out ectopic pregnancy at this stage, gosh this is really making me worried sick..

I had to a blood test today to check on hormone level and come back two days later on 6th August for another blood test to see if the hormone level increases.

Feeling very tired and lethargic now.....

BIG FAT POSITIVE

02 AUGUST 2009

Huh?! BABY ON THE WAY?????????!

It was a beautiful, sunny Sunday, Geo went to church in the morning then came to fetch me to buy Yong Tou Fu from Compasspoint, well, i have this craving since few days ago :P

On the way I also bought the pregnancy test kit from Guardian Pharmacy, cos this cycle was really long overdue with lots of mensus-like cramps but nothing happened, "why not just test it on one stick to see how it goes", i thought...

After taking lunch, watching TV for a couple of hours, Geo knocked off, for me there was seemingly nothing better to do than to go toilet, then i saw the test kit on the dressing table, so took out one of them from the box to test.

I could not believe my eyes when the positive result appeared on the test kit minutes later. With a deep breath i brought the test kit to Geo who was comfortably sleeping on the couch, in the living room. I woke him up and shown him the kit, he could not figure out what was that at first, then i told him "I am pregnant", he went blank and speechless for a few seconds, the next i saw was his cannot-believe-it face, and then he said " you are pregnant already?!............." (after that he could not sleep anymore..... :D)

Haha, no hand-in-hand jumping-for-joy kind of reaction from both of us, this is really the mind-boggling moment that set us to start thinking about all the possible changes/challenges that are going to take place very soon.

This is the very BIG FAT POSITIVE i got on the CLEARBLUE test kit

Still a bit in denial mood, i still find it hard to believe, the well-orchestrated plan with measuring body basal temperature, ovulation test kits, etc... i did not believe it works now cos i have not even started taking the clomid (to stimulate ovulation) prescribed by doctor from KKH yet..

I took another urine test two days later, using the first urine in the morning which is said to be more accurate...well, still got the same result. From that moment, i was finally convinced and decided to quickly book an appointment to see my gynae in KK Private Suite.

Having a baby is certainly one of the most exciting, challenging and life-changing experience. Now this moment is here, i am glad and thank GOD for giving me this precious gift of life. But at the same time i have a strong unsettling feeling. Will the baby be ok? Will I be able to adapt to the new lifestyle? Will i be able to cope with both work and baby? oh gosh, i don't even know how to carry a baby!!.... All the scary TV scenes on women giving birth keep flashing on my mind, and, yes breastfeeding hurts!...argh!!! i really don't know if i can handle all that!

No matter what, having strong, healthy and happy baby is all-important. All the great mothers in the world have done that, and so i will... gotta do my best to protect the gift in me now :) May GOD bless the baby and me............
