1st Trimester Blood Test and Detail Scan

28th September 2009, 5th Appointment

I am 12week1day pregnant now

These two tests are necessary to check for Down Syndrome to ensure baby is normal. The centre was quite crowded, we have waited for approx half an hour for the blood test eventhough we came earlier. The nurse drew 3 tubes of blood from me, then we proceed to ADC for detail ultrasound scan.

The sonographer is a young lady doctor under the guidance of a professor who stepped into the dark cosy room several times to check the progress. It took a while for the sonographer to finally get a good angel to see the baby. This is the first time we could see the baby moving the hands and legs so actively, really amazing.

The sonographer shown us baby's heartbeats, took the measurement of the baby, crown-to-rump length is now 6.61cm, EDD has changed from 11th April 2010 to 6th April 2010. She went on to check the baby skull, spine, abdomen, nasal (nose) bone and nuchal translucency measures at 1.9mm. After about half an hour of scan, sonographer concluded that all is normal. Thank God the scan is over cos she really pressed hard on my bladder, i wished i could run to toilet asap!

This is the the only scan photo given to me :

Both tests above cost about $380.
3 days later, KKH called to inform me that both blood test and detail scan result shows that the baby has low risk for Down Syndrome, the ratio is 1:7841. But KKH also sent me a separate letter informing me that i have Thalassaemia, a kind of genetic blood disorder that i knew since 2005 before our wedding solemnization. Both Geo and I have to do another blood test at the next visit.
