10th Appointment

26th Jan 2010

Yay, finally 4 weeks are over and today can see doctor and baby again!
I am in my 29th week of pregnancy. Nowaday Dr Benjamin's room is equipped with 3D scan machine, i was happy for a moment, but who knows the baby did not cooperate, he covers his face with his hands again.. alas...so end up doctor only gave me one blur blur 2D photo to keep. We could not see the 3D scan clearly, only managed to see his mouth keep moving like swallowing water.

Doctor said bb haven open his eyes yet, but he weighs about 1.45Kg now. Baby's head is down. I then asked doc to confirm if the amniotic fluid and placenta are ok, he said both are normal. So as usual, Doc Benjamin being a popular doctor, his appointment is always done in 5-10mins, i take the chance to confirm with him if he is leaving KKH. He seems a bit uneasy to tell more, but he confirmed that he will deliver for me in April and he will leave in May. Thank GOD. I really don't wish to change gynae at this stage.

Just before Doc 'chased' me out, i suddenly thought of asking him about the glucost test, it seems many April MTBs have done the test but wonder how come doc Benjamin did not ask me to do. He said i am <35 years old so lower risk but i told him my father is diabetic. He quickly arranged to send me for OGTT (oral glucose tolerence test), i was asked to fast the night before and drink a cup of a very sweet clear liquid on Friday morning (29th Jan). It did not taste as awful as what i initially thought. But the dreadful part is need to draw blood twice and i lost my appetite after taking the glucose drink. The nurse advised me to walk around and be active during the waiting time before second blood withdrawal, so i went to Mothercare for shopping, bought two breastfeeding night dresses for myself :)

The next appointment will be in 5 weeks time. I am shocked cos i thought now into 3rd trimester should need to see him more often. Have called KKH to bring the appointment one week earlier on 23rd Feb.

The last two antenatal lessons on Saturday were pretty interesting. One on breastfeeding and the other on parent craft. Finally can learn how to hold baby for breastfeeding, but shame to say i did poorly, it was Geo who corrected me...haha...holding baby is an "art", baby is so soft and fragile, i hope i won't panic next time. And during the parentcraft lesson, the nurse shown us how to bath the baby and fold cloth napkin. For first time parents like me, that really helps!
