JK and I Got Admitted

14th March 2010

Today we sent baby to KKH emergency clinic as instructed to check on baby JK's jaundice. We reach KKH at around 11am and the clinic were packed with people already. First we are told to sent baby for blood test, it really break my heart to see the nurse squeezing little baby's JK's feet for two tubes of blood. JK's cries really made me sad, but have to endure.

After that, we went to see Doc Lee Khai Pin. He told that baby's jaundice level has increased from 200 to 259, a definate case that baby needs to be admitted for phototherapy. After finishing the admission procedure, we are led to ward 32. It was really heartbreaking to see baby put on the photolight, naked with both eyes covered. I could not control myself but cried inside the ward. There were many babies there, and they look much plummer and bigger than my JK in size.

I spent the following days visiting KKH daily to pass the expressed breastmilk to the nurse so that JK can continue to take my BM. I also tried to latch him but without much success as JK was very sleepy. On the 15th March i got the Medela Pump In Style advance from KKH Pharmacy at S$589 using $100 voucher given by KKH. You see, i have started shopping on day 4 after i've delivered!!!

On the 16th March, JK's jaundice has improved so we can discharge and bring baby home. Geo came to pick us at KKH at around 5pm. We went to Yishun to fetch mum, cos we really need extra hands to help us take care of baby so that i could rest. For the past 3 days i did not rest well, weary and physically worn out, and i did not have any proper confinement food until i started to order from Natal Essential a one-week package meal at the cost of S$418.

18th March 2010

Since 17th March, i started to find it weird that i suddenly have increased mensus flow. It became a sign of worry when i see blood dripping down my legs. I never expect anything serious i thought it was just mensus blood. And i further confirmed with my colleague Lois and it was normal.

18th March 230am - JK woke up asking for milk. I tried to latch him lying on the bed. When i moved my body i felt a lot of blood oozed out from my bottom. I knew something was not right, and i woke up Geo. He was terrified to see so much blood and clot coming out from the wound, and it seem nothing could stop the bleeding. I called KKH delivery suite and was told to call ambulance instead. Geo dialed 995 and i was sent to the KKH 24 hour woman clinic immediately. During the journey i was very very very terrified cos the bleeding never stop and i wonder how much blood i still have in my body.

Upon arrival, the nurses came to me, measure BP while waiting for doctor to come. About 15mins later, a sleepy looking female Doctor Lee came. she looked calm and composed. Checked me and she found out that the bleeding came from the eposiotomy wound, the previous stitches did not hold, gave way and apparently there seem to have an artery there causing massive bleeding. The doctor spend a long time stitching me up again, it was so painful and i really could not find a stronger word to describe the pain. She knew i was in great pain, gave me several local anesthetic jabs while she sew up the wound but the jabs did not seem to work. I was in great pain and body went shivering uncontrollably. Finally the stitches were done, she explained to me the cause of this incident but i was already in the state of shock according to her.

I felt so sad over this episode. I blamed myself for not taking good care of myself. Have i over-estimated my capability - worked too much, over exerted my body? I really did not expect things would turn out like that. Looked at my tired husband i don't know what to say to him.

I was discharged on the same day. After this i really need to be careful with my wound. I have bed rest most of the time since that.

This is the worst nightmare i experience, far more scary than the piles episode. GOD, please protect me from anymore pain and physical suffering, please.............
